All the Way with Micky K

15/11/2015

A report from Mick Kaksa....

"Friday evening started off with a bang. The shallows of cabin lake had numerous browns tailing on the edge. They proved to be difficult but not impossible. A Muz Wilson sticky caddis greased all the way along the leader did the trick. Later in the evening a better than average rise occurred. A mix of browns and rainbows were landed with either a Carrot and a Sticky, Carrot and Milly Midge or in my case a Carrot and a Pat Swift Emerging Caddis.
Saturday morning and Cabin Lake could have been mistaken for Tasmania's Little Pine Lagoon with many fish tailing along the edges with odd one being caught on a blood worm. Once the sun came up the tailing activity stopped but the fish could still be polaroided in the shallows using the trees on the far side of the lake as a backdrop. A couple of the boys fished the deeper banks with what can only be described as a Nuclear Woolly Bugger and did particularly well landing bigger fish than what we were catching in the shallows.
The crew was split up at lunch and we headed elsewhere for what was a significant dun rise with some huge fish busting off flies on the take or in the weed. The rest of the group had mixed results but from what I understand most of the lakes had a sprinkle of Mayfly action.
Saturday evening was a little difficult only due to the weather. We managed to blind flog a couple at Harbours and then went across the road for the evening rise - which really showed some potential until a shower came through and the fish never got back up in those numbers but we did manage a few stockies and one good fish.
Sunday was groundhog day at cabin lake with fish tailing once again. Harbours was the pick of the lakes during the lunch session with a damsel migration taking place and once a fly change was made the boys went from zero to hero very quickly. The other group got some crackers with Kel (Captain Awesome) landing a rainbow just over 6 pound, not a bad effort from a guy who didn’t know the difference between a dry and wet fly!

As always everyone had a great time!

Thanks once again and I look forward to going back in a couple of weeks."
